Get carded

Pickup lines often lose their cachet when you receive a boring business card at the end of a flirtfest. But thanks to Linda Miller’s recently launched style-card.com, you can still look cool while offering your contact info. After leaving her Internet job four years ago to become a full-time mom, Miller missed having business cards to dole out at social gatherings. “I didn’t have an identity,” she says. In turn, she created these social networking cards that list random nuggets of information about the carrier, from what you do and where you blog to the fact that you’re a cuddler. The user-friendly website offers a blank canvas with graphic design 101 instructions, so it’s a cinch to upload your choice of photos or graphics and text. The 20 percent recycled cards come in sets of 80 for $59 (plus shipping and handling) and arrive about a week after you place an order. “There are so many people out there with jobs but want to be something or somebody [else],” Miller says. Now’s your chance. Available at style-card.com.

The Brand Called You

Fast Company
The Brand Called You
by: Tom Peters

Big companies understand the importance of brands. Today, in the Age of the Individual, you have to be your own brand. Here's what it takes to be the CEO of Me Inc.

_______________________________________

It's a new brand world.

That cross-trainer you're wearing -- one look at the distinctive swoosh on the side tells everyone who's got you branded. That coffee travel mug you're carrying -- ah, you're a Starbucks woman! Your T-shirt with the distinctive Champion "C" on the sleeve, the blue jeans with the prominent Levi's rivets, the watch with the hey-this-certifies-I-made-it icon on the face, your fountain pen with the maker's symbol crafted into the end ...

You're branded, branded, branded, branded.

It's time for me -- and you -- to take a lesson from the big brands, a lesson that's true for anyone who's interested in what it takes to stand out and prosper in the new world of work.

Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You.

It's that simple -- and that hard. And that inescapable.

STAYING HUMAN IN A DIGITAL WORLD
Do I exist if I don’t have a MySpace page?

Though it could be argued that text messaging helps to promote manual dexterity, and email is the greatest communication tool in the history of civilization, the digital world has flattened our personalities, turning conversations into acronyms (LOL, TTYL), and reducing first impressions to the blinking text and thumping bass of your MySpace page or facebook profile.

“We’re losing touch with ourselves, with the physical nature of being human beings.”, pontificates Luke Scott, master graphic designer and light bulb checker with a bent for behavorial science at dogsname.com. “People need to meet other people, to shake hands, to hug, to hi-five. They need to begin the relationship, to get a sense for one and other’s style.”

style-card™ was born of this idea, grounded on the basic principal that technology is no substitute for physical interaction. It is however, the ultimate support tool. One that allowed style-card.com© to develop an easy-to-use proprietary system for creating personalized high-quality social networking cards online.

Upload an image, create your colors, change your text, find your style. We created a whiteboard so you can be a graphic designer in your own space. It’s that easy.
Click to make and get a set of glossy cards shipped right to your door. The rest is up to you.
